However, typically, the average lifespan of a crown that’s well-looked-after is around 15 years. Those who go the extra mile to take care of their crown will likely see the longevity of their dental crown increase, with some lifespans reaching 30 years.
WHAT ARE THE MAIN TYPES OF CROWNS?
Dental crowns are traditionally a durable solution to restore the function and look of a damaged tooth. The tooth-shaped caps help restore and preserve teeth as well as improve the overall look of your smile at the same time.
That said, dental crowns come in varying materials, all varying in cost:
- Gold crowns: More commonly used in the back teeth, the main advantages being durability and requiring less tooth structure to be removed.

One clear disadvantage of crowns for patients can be their cost, but often, they’re an essential part of restoration treatments; for example, you might need one after a root canal or dental implant treatment. If this is the case, and dental crowns are out of your budget, we can provide monthly instalment plans and 0% financing to help you spread the cost of your treatment.
Our dentists will also need to reduce the size of the underlying tooth so the crown can fit nicely on top – think of it like a cap!
