Teeth white composite filling

White fillings are a more natural-looking alternative to metal fillings, providing the means of achieving a seamless smile following cavity treatment.

They are made from a mixture of powdered glass and acrylic resin, developed to mimic the colour and texture of natural teeth.

Guide to White Tooth fillings

Can I have all my amalgam fillings replaced with white fillings?

We usually only advise replacing silver amalgam fillings when they have come to the end of their natural life.

Your dentist will review the condition of any fillings and will offer a replacement, tooth-coloured fillings when the time comes.

How safe are white fillings?

White fillings incorporate inert, non-toxic materials. Unlike silver amalgam fillings, they contain no mercury. See mercury ban.

We use a blue light to set a white filling, and these procedures are carefully controlled and conducted by our highly trained dental professionals. They work well within the recognised safety limits.

How long do white fillings last?

White fillings made from the latest low-shrinkage, durable composites usually last five or more years. The position of the filling, the strength of your bite, and whether you grind your teeth can all affect its lifespan.

Process for white fillings

We use the latest bonding technology to build up existing teeth and restore them to their original form and function. The advantages of white fillings are that they are minimally invasive, building on existing tooth structures and removing only the severely decayed part of the tooth.

In some cases, areas of decay can be removed by air abrasion without discomfort or drilling – the ideal preparation before a filling.
