Reasons you might need root canal treatment

Root canals are often necessary for patients to cure damage deep inside the tooth. When a tooth has formed a large cavity, it can sometimes reach the pulp chamber of the tooth, which is made up of fine tissue fibres, nerves and blood vessels. When bacteria reach the pulp chamber, the tooth’s internal structure becomes damaged and can lead to painful consequences like abscesses.

NO NEED TO WORRY

We have found that many of our London patients are worried or nervous about root canal treatment, but you should feel no pain or discomfort at all during the procedure, and it’s over relatively quickly. Here at Mint Dental, our ethos is to educate patients about the procedure beforehand, explaining why it might be necessary, the purpose of any expert intervention, and any additional procedures required.

FAST PROCEDURE

Root canal treatment removes bacteria from inside the tooth and disinfects the root canals – and while this might sound invasive, we only make a small hole through the damaged tooth to reach the pulp chamber.

Following this, we locate and measure the root canal using tiny instruments to clean the infected area. Post-procedure discomfort is normal but manageable and short-lived. Your dentist will provide you with all the necessary aftercare tips.

Root canals traditionally do not take much time to complete (one to two hours). However, with this being said, each patient is different, and the length of the procedure will differ according to the complexity of your case. Sometimes, re-rooting or re-treatment might be necessary, which can take longer than an initial appointment.

“My entire family is treated here, and we’ve had great experiences with the hygienist and Dr Raj Patel. Dr Patel has been lovely with our two young children and treated me for a root canal repair and crown fitting. He was thorough, explained all of the options and the pros and cons, and his work was great. We will miss them when we move out of London shortly! Best dentist I’ve had in the UK.” – Tara, Blackfriars
