Guide to Implant-Retained Dentures

What are implant-retained dentures?
  • Upper dentures commonly use six dental implants.
  • Two to four implants typically anchor lower dentures.
  • Treatment length for implant dentures is four months for the lower arches and seven months for the uppers.
  • Immediate smiles are only available with temporary teeth / the method is only sped up with the All-on-4 process.

Dental implants are fixed into the jaw using a titanium screw. The surrounding bone grows around the implant site, making it solid and secure. On top of this, to ensure our patients are happy with their new smile, we craft a custom denture to suit the implants to provide a better overall function and sensation.

How implant-retained dentures work

Often referred to as clip-on or snap-on dentures, implant-retained dentures work similarly to traditional ones. For example, they are taken out to clean and reattached to the implants once you’ve finished.

The implants will be specific attachments called abutments that click the denture into place.

As implant-retained dentures do not require dental adhesives or suction to stay put, their unique design ensures that the mouth’s roof remains uncovered, restoring taste sensations for denture-wearing patients.

Implant-retained denture benefits
  • Dentures remain fixed in place without the need for suction or dental adhesives
  • Dentures are set firmly in the mouth using a minimal number of implants, which makes them more stable and secure
  • Dental implants maintain the facial structure as they distribute weight more evenly throughout the mouth
  • Tooth implants preserve the bone in the jaw and promote good oral health
  • Dentures never come loose ever again

Comparing full mouth implant options

Suppose you’ve been doing your research or have already received a professional opinion regarding dental implantation and types.

In that case, you might be familiar with systems like All-on-Four, Implant-Supported Bridges, Implant-Retained Dentures, etc.

But here at Mint, our ethos is genuinely about educating the patient on each option so they can decide which treatment will be the best for their condition, budget and lifestyle. As a result, we often receive many dental referrals and requests for second opinions on complex total tooth loss cases.

Implant dentures are more affordable

From £9,999 / £232 PM

Implant dentist Dr Rohit Patel has worked with hundreds of complex, edentulous cases where full arch rehabilitation and reconstruction are required – and for some patients, treatments like All-on-4 or All-on-6 might not be within their budgets, making removable implant dentures a more favourable option.
